Topics: Producing More with Less using Sensing, Information Technology and Machine Learning
Abstract:
Today, sensing and information technology has permeated in all walks of life. Unbeknownst to us, we living in a world where there is continuous sensing remotely of our environment, ranging from how it looks, to how warm or cold it is, the amount of rain, temperature of air and even our own selves. This talk will overview a few examples of how we can use remote sensing from satellites with the easy availability of information technology such as our cellphones and machine learning to improve production of key resources such as food, energy and water. Many of the examples will pertain to Bangladesh and real-world application. The examples are a team work of different disciplines spanning IT, computer science, engineering, environmental science and social science. Given the data rich world we now live in, the onus is on all of to create value-added solutions that can solve key societal problems cost effectively and make a clear economic impact.
